Saved my trip from being a disaster

Went to Algonquin early June. Bought this jacket along with a pair of mesh bug pants from MEC (OO didn't have the pants). Mosquitos were thick but I got very few bites. No blackflies surprisingly so I can't comment on how it would have worked with those, however I suspect it would have been equally as effecive.

I wore this jacket from dawn to dusk every day and it was comfortable and easy to work in. I was able to wear a pack and portage a canoe without this interfering. Keep in mind if you are fishing this mesh netting attracts trebel hooks like a vortex...I had to cut my lures out of the mesh on more than one occasion, leaving a small hole which can easily be repaired with thread. I didn't bother and no mosquitoes found their way through.

The jacket comes with a pair of mesh mittens, which I never used. I preferred DEET on the hands.

One thing I did have to fuss with a bit is the face area. I wore a baseball hat to keep the mesh off my face, but I found the mesh still hung pretty close to my face. To me a perfect bug jacket would have a bit more roominess int he face area, and potentially thinner or lighter mesh to increase visibility especially during low light conditions. When I was in the deep woods in a shaded gorge trying to take hooks out of brook trout with less than 20/20 vision, having mesh impeding your vision further was definately a bit of a challenge.

For the money I don't know why you would ever go into the outdoors during bug season without one of these.
